The Maryland Center for Tuberculosis Control and Prevention provides leadership, policy development, and technical assistance to local health departments, health care providers, and other partners who contribute to the control and prevention of tuberculosis in Maryland.
The Maryland TB Center is also an active member of a national Center for Disease Control-funded Tuberculosis Epidemiologic Studies Consortium which conducts research toward the goal of eliminating tuberculosis in the United States.
This story highlights the personal experiences of a Maryland Tuberculosis (TB) survivor who was diagnosed and treated for TB disease. The survivor describes her surprise when she was diagnosed with TB in her epiglottis. With support from her family and nurses from the health department, she completed treatment.
