Palliative care is specialized medical care for people with serious illnesses like cancer.  It promotes quality of life by preventing, treating, and relieving pain and suffering, and is appropriate for people of all ages at all stages of an illness; it is not limited to the end of life.  The information here will help you to learn more about palliative care.

American Cancer Society:  Saving lives and preventing suffering for people facing cancer are central to the American Cancer Society’s mission. The Society collaborates with national partners to promote palliative care as part of cancer treatment for patients and their families at any age and any stage.


City of Hope Pain & Palliative Care Resource Center:  A clearinghouse for information and resources to assist others in improving the quality of pain management and end of life care. Materials include pain assessment tools, patient education materials, quality assurance materials, end of life resources, research instruments and other resources.


A Quality Life Podcasts:  From Get Palliative Care, a patient podcast series telling the stories of real experiences with palliative care.

Get Palliative Care:  The site is provided by the Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC) and offers a provider directory.


Hospice & Palliative Care Network of Maryland:  A membership association for hospice and palliative care programs, services, and facilities in the state of Maryland.  Offers resources, training, education and a legislative “voice” to its member organizations.

National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO): NHPCO’s End-of-Life Online (E-OL) is your access to on-demand learning. State of the art E-OL Courses and webcasts are specifically designed to provide new insights, innovation, strategy and information to ensure the delivery of quality hospice and palliative care.


Education in Palliative and End-of-life Care (EPEC): EPEC curricula are available to health care professionals to augment their knowledge and practice of palliative care.  In its distance learning format, the curriculum is partitioned into sections and is interspersed with videos, case vignettes, and discussion questions. Users gain core competency in palliative care and benefit from the flexibility and convenience of this format.


American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM): AAHPM provides continuing medical education (CME) that supports and advances the practice of physicians in hospice and palliative medicine. We strive to offer a range of opportunities to earn CME, including live events; online, on-demand products; and virtual live events such as webinars.
