Module # 14 – Protecting Breastfeeding

Overview:

Module # 14 discusses strategies that protect breastfeeding as a public health goal through education on International Code of Marketing of breastmilk substitute; provide information on risks and effects of formula marketing in healthcare settings; discusses the various strategies that support, promote and protect breastfeeding as well as provide information about donations in emergency situations.

Objectives:

  • Provide strategies that protect breastfeeding as a public health goal.
  • Understand the International Code of Marketing of breastmilk substitute and how it affects breastfeeding.
  • Protect families from effects of formula marketing in healthcare settings.
  • Provide information and strategies to support and promote breastfeeding as well as donations in emergency situations.
  • Establish the role of health workers to identify and prevent formula marketing that compromise breastfeeding efforts.
