Maryland Asthma Friendly Schools Initiative
To address the burden of asthma in schools, the Maryland Asthma Control Program (MACP), in partnership with the Maryland State Department of Education, has implemented the Asthma Friendly Schools Initiative (AFSI) pilot project. The AFSI supports the health and academic success of students through maximizing asthma management and reducing environmental asthma triggers in the school environment.
Are you ready to begin the planning stages to implement an Asthma Friendly School program in your school? Many school personnel may find the initial planning overwhelming. To help with this, please use this
Team Work Assessment. The Partner Inventory, Technical Assistance needs and School Selection will help to organize your next steps and create strategies for implementation. This
Assessment Checklist will also allow evaluation of what has been accomplished and what still needs to be implemented to become an Asthma Friendly School.
The process for applying to become an Asthma Friendly School is very straight forward. Once a decision is made that you will be applying, inform the Asthma Program Coordinator of MACP.

After all projects, policies and activities have been completed, you can submit this
Application Form to the Asthma Program Coordinator. It is due May 15, 2010. If your school will collect data in support of your project, you can use this
Student Monitoring Form..
