Family Planning and Reproductive Health Program
The Goal of the Maryland Family Planning and Reproductive Health Program is to:
  • Reduce unintended pregnancy,
  • Improve pregnancy outcomes by assuring that comprehensive, quality family planning and reproductive health services are available and accessible to Maryland citizens in need.
 
What is family planning?
 
Family Planning is the process of choosing when to have children.
 
Why use family planning services?
 
Family Planning prevents abortion and is a leading strategy in reducing low-birth weight births, and fetal and infant mortality.
 
What types of family planning services are available?
  • Preconception health
  • Teen pregnancy prevention
  • Reproductive health
  • Colposcopy
  • Birth control methods including emergency contraception
  • Sexually transmitted disease (STD) screening and treatment
  • Related education and counseling services

Who is served by the Maryland Family Planning and Reproductive Health Program?


Maryland's Family Planning Program provides clinical and related services to approximately 78,000 women and men each year at clinics located in every county.
No one is denied services because of the inability to pay. The program is partly funded by the federal Title X Family Planning Grant. No federal or state funds are used to pay for or support abortions.

It is estimated that approximately 267,650 women throughout the state are in need of the publicly subsidized family planning services offered by the Maryland Family Planning and Reproductive Health Program.

 
Family Planning Coverage under the Maryland Medical Assistance Program:

The
Maryland Medicaid Program offers family planning health benefits coverage to eligible women.
